It’s ALL SOULS’ DAY today. We pay respect and remember our dearly departed loved ones.
Every year, we say special prayers for souls when this day would come. Some may say the souls don’t need prayers anymore, but they do. It may be just a tradition to others, but there is a deeper meaning when we really say prayers for the souls.
The priests say that when one dies, a soul moves to a place called purgatory. This is a temporary waiting area for the soul. This is where life lived by the individual is screened, analyzed and is later given the go signal whether to go up to heaven or down below.
To make a vivid picture, [Note: This is in my point of view, ok? =) ]
–>imagine a soul as applying for a housing space in heaven (Remember, Jesus promised us that everyone will have a house prepared for us up there in heaven). Each soul has a blank form and are still waiting to be interviewed by St. Peter and his team.
The location of the house being applied for is in heaven.
Every good comment we say here on earth about our dearly departed loved one, his/her form in purgatory gets filled up. Every prayer we say for the soul’s intention, the form gets substance.
Now, what about the souls which belong to those people who have not been prayed for? That’s why there are prayer warriors here on earth. They pray for the souls of those who have been forgotten by their own families.
So, right before the names of our dearly departed are called by St. Peter, we should have said plenty, plenty of prayers for them already. This is for the benefit of the soul… so that when St. Peter opens the Book of Life, looks at each entry and compares it with the prayers and comments that appear in the form, the application to heaven would be approved. A special house will be assigned for our departed loved one.
So, let us always try to remember to say a little prayer for them, especially on occasions like this. =) Each soul in purgatory needs a little push from us who are still living on earth.
Have you said your prayers for them?
