…catching a moment… =)

gratitude, home & garden 2 Comments

Summer is almost over. Most kids are buying new school supplies; others are recycling unused pages from old notebooks. Schools are visited by old and new students to enroll for the coming school year.

A few days last week I happen to catch two visitors in our garden. They came at around lunchtime. Watching them jumping from one flower to another, I immediately grabbed my camera and caught this picture.

Although the camera I’m using is not of the high caliber DSLR (yet, :razz:..), I’m so happy with this shot, catching that moment at the right time.

Although the weather have been quite unpredictable (on this part of the planet) to enjoy the summer this year, there are lots of things, even from simple things, to be thankful for always. :wink:

it’s the merry month of May…

attitude, gratitude, information No Comments

Hey, there! It’s the month of May!! :lol:

These are the days we spend more time with families and friends to catch up with each other through reunions and gatherings, swimming days, fiestas, adventure trips, “gimmicks” and the like.

Besides that, it is also the time that we gather together as a community to renew our ties, have a relationship, or a deeper relationship to Jesus thru Mama Mary.

Every afternoon, from the first day of May, we join the community to offer flowers to the Blessed Virgin Mary. We call it “Flores de Mayo” or Flowers of May.

Do you know why we call it like that?

Last Friday, the priest gave a beautiful catechism about why we do these things every year. What I learned more about it is: It’s not just bringing flowers to the altar just because we need to as a tradition of our parents or grandparents. It’s a journey that we take to become closer to Jesus thru The Blessed Virgin Mary’s intercession. As a mother cares for her child and his brothers, so does the Blessed Mother cares for each one of us.

We bring flowers to give honor and gratitude to the help given by the mother of our Redeemer and also as our way of bringing our petitions to Jesus. Each flower we bring represent the prayers we ask or are thankful for. As we spend time with the community in doing these things everyday, we get to have blessings for our personal needs and the needs of our family that come just right in time when we need it.

What are we waiting for? Come on, let’s get a flower ready and join our community in the journey today! It’s the merry month of May!! :wink:

my garden adventure…

environment, home & garden, interesting 1 Comment

In my little effort to take care of Mother earth, I do some composting at home. Following the methods shared by some environmentalists I watched on tv, I usually save the vegetable peelings and the like and put them in my home made tire pit. It has become sort of a habit to just drop the removed vegetable stuff in the pit every time I prepare meals.

One day, I was surprised to see a bunch of green leafy seedlings coming out. I don’t know what plant they were at that time, so I tried recalling what I had put in days earlier. Looking intently at the roots, I saw some squash seedcoats beside them. I recalled we had “bulanglang” (boiled mixed vegetables with ginger) the week before. I got excited to see those little leaves growing healthy everyday, so I decided to take care of them. I started putting barbecue sticks as trellis.

Not really knowing how to grow squash, I relied on the internet to see what these plants need. As a hobbyist home gardener, I just keep providing the basics as I have learned in science lessons — water, sunlight, air; making sure they are not crowded together. I even greet them and talk to them to grow healthy and be fruitful every time I visit.  :lol: Well, as they say, its good for the plants….

As days passed by, they kept growing and growing longer. I had to put taller trellis and supporting weblike strings. (I now know how it feels like to be a spider, creating its web. lol!) It feels good, every time I see about 7 to 8 inches growth on the vines every morning. Longer and longer, the vines climbed up. Buds started to sprout too.  Last Wednesday, this was its greeting to me…

I just couldnt help but run for the camera and take a shot.

happy hearts day

….let love fill our hearts today and onwards. Amidst the crisis, a simple smile, a hug, a squeeze of a hand, a pat on the back is what one heart needs to get to the mood for spreading love to the world. Let’s share our love today! :wink:

when you least expect it….

attitude, gratitude 3 Comments

This is a post I should have done last week.  But since I have been up early for two weeks now to attend the morning mass with my mom, I often catch some sleep during the day. Better late than never… :wink:

My time for waking up is around 4:30 in the morning. “Inay” would call me up just before she takes a bath to remind me that the hot water for my bath is on the stove. Before the kettle whistles, I would have enough time to stretch out in bed, say my prayers and prepare for the day ahead.

This particular Friday morning, Inay woke me hurriedly, letting me get the message from the tone of her voice that we’re late for mass. When I looked at the clock beside the bed, it was just 4 o’clock in the morning. She was disatisfied with the way I was moving, that as she descended the stairs dressed and ready to go, she said, “You’re taking a bath just now????” So I softly replied, “It’s just 4:30. We’re not going to be late.”

She then went back to her room, took a second look at her bedside clock as I took my turn to take a bath.

Later, at about 5:15am, we were already out waiting for a tricycle ride to church. Still dark and chilly, a jeepney came by. Second unusual thing this particular day. You see, the road was being reconstructed from asphalt to cement. Jeepneys take another route to go to the town plaza. The jeepney was there, so we rode it.

However, the usual route we take every morning in a tricycle, had a detour this particular day. The jeepney had to turn back and pass through the longer alternate road meant for big vehicles.

Everyday, we leave home at 5:30am and are usually in church by 5:45am.

Today, in a jeepney, through a longer route,  we were at church at 5:45am….

So what’s the difference??

This particular Friday morning, blessings came when we least expected it.

First Scene: Inay woke up  and woke me up verrrrrrrrrrry early so that we won’t be late to hear mass.

Blessing 2: waking up earlier than usual

Blessing 3: the driver and his jeepney passing by early in the morning (as if  our private ride! )

Blessing 4: Although we passed the long route to church, we still arrived on time!

Blessing 1: We have Inay, who is awakened by her angels and  was an instrument for a series of blessings of early morning graces, when you least expect it. :wink: AMEN!!

X’s: I was able to write this post in church while waiting for the priest to come (Blessing #5). Good thing I have my post-its with me. (Blessing #6….. :lol: )

How about you?… Have you counted your blessings today?… Keep counting!!! :razz:

h-e-l-l-o 2009

attitude, gratitude, greetings No Comments

hello there!

I’ve been out of the blogging activity for quite a while.  Although the Christmas and New year season is over, I still have my hands full of house chores and errands.  Good thing, they are getting less these days. :wink:

Wooooooah! It’s too cold and windy on this side of the planet. The past two weeks have been quite difficult for me. My ears, hands, feet and nose feels icy cold, during the day especially in the early morning. Wheezing is frequent too since I gained weight last year. :razz:

When you listen to the 2009 forecast in the news, some say, it’s a good year for some and bad for some. Well, I guess it’s up to each of us to work for things to be better. We can ask guidance from God to let us live out His plan for us. As a quote says, “Try prayer. it works!”… and it really do, as long as we listen and open our life to Him.

So what’s a good way to put in mind for 2009? It doesn’t have to be resolutions again and again waiting for the next new year to start anew….

A moment of insight came to me the morning of January 5, 2009. I was able to jot these down:

Everyday is a chance to serve, to love, to share;

Everyday is an opportunity to make a difference;

Everyday is a chance to give thanks for family, friends, ideas, things, opportunities that come our way;

Everyday is a responsibility to pay it forward;

Our life is a gift. Live it to the fullest!! :wink:

Everyday, each of us have 24 hours… Let’s make each day in 2009 count.

P.S. Thank you readers,  ec droppers (especially those that have become good friends too) and visitors…. May God bless you in your daily undertakings!!
